To involve technology in the activity I mentioned in assignment 1a, the teacher could have had us use a program to simulate the fake money she was giving us. This program could have allowed us to earn some sort of fake currency online by doing something trivial (such clicking as fast as possible) for a short amount of time. Depending on how well we performed, we would get rewarded more or less currency which would show up in our “bank”. Then, just like the activity, the teacher could take all of the currency out of everyone’s bank and then split it up evenly among everyone. She then would have the discussion about how everyone feels about having their money gathered and redistributed. Using technology in this manner would make the redistribution of the currency even more impactful, because rather than being given an arbitrary amount the student earned the currency for themselves. I thought of using technology in this way because it is a good way to make the activity more personal and impactful for the students. Using this technology, likely a website, in this way allows the student to earn their own currency which makes the redistribution of it more impactful and therefore reinforces the message/purpose of the activity.
