I have selected the topic of chemistry as my selected course theme. I will specifically discuss the topic of acids and bases.  This topic and its material will be geared towards highschoolers in their first chemistry or honors chemistry course. I will cover what the pH scale is as well as provide definitions of what acids and bases are.  I would also cover basic neutralization reactions and the difference between strong and weak acids and bases. Buffers would also be reviewed however I would not go into any dissociation constants as that was material that was introduced in higher level chemistry courses.  Overall, I would cover regular chemistry level material with the possibility for a very slight introduction into AP Chemistry topics.   

Personally, when I was introduced to acids and bases for the first time I was very confused and did not properly understand them until I took AP Chem.  My purpose in selecting this as my theme is to create an easy to understand introduction to acids and bases that will approach the topic in more than one way.  I feel like if there was more thought or a different approach to introduce the topic of acids and bases that I would have understood it better when I was first introduced to it, and that is what I am going to try to accomplish.  I am choosing this topic because I have always enjoyed chemistry, and as a chemistry education major, this is essential. Since it was something that I struggled to learn initially I also feel like I will be able to address in a way that overcomes the walls that I hit when learning about this topic initially.
